I wanted to share this PDF document which explains how to deactivate the OEM R8 rear spoiler for anyone who may need it using the Audi  equipment VAS.

Here are the instructions for anyone else wishing to deactivate the rear spoiler using VCDS:

Short Method scroll down for the more detailed method

1. You will be presented with the following main screen of VCDS

2. Click the Options button bottom right

3. You will be presented with this screen, click TEST, OK then SAVE

4.. Click on SELECT below Select Control Module

5.. You will be presented with this screen, click on 46-Central Conv.

6. Click on Coding - 07

7. Highlight and copy the current coding (the big long number) and paste it into a text file or Word file etc just somewhere safe in case you need it later.

8. Paste the number into the bottom box New Coding

9. Change the 8th number along to a 2.
In my case this went from being
1890200201182D098505489AD633
to
1890200001182D098505489AD633

10. Notice how I have only changed the 8th number along to a 0 to deactivate the rear spoiler.

More Detailed Method

1. You need a VCDS HEX-USB+CAN cable from Ross-Tech or occasionally from eBay sellers before their listings are withdrawn.

2. Plug the cable into the OBD-II port which is located in the drivers footwell above the pedals.

3. Insert the key and turn on the ignition

4. Connect the USB end of the cable to your laptop

5. Open the VCDS Application

6. You will be presented with the following main screen of VCDS

7. Click the Options button bottom right

8. You will be presented with this screen, click TEST, OK then SAVE

9. Click on SELECT below Select Control Module

10. You will be presented with this screen, click on 46-Central Conv.

11. Click on Coding - 07

12. Highlight and copy the current coding (the big long number) and paste it into a text file or Word file etc just somewhere safe incase you need it later.

13. Click on Long Coding Helper

14. You will be presented with this screen. At point 1) you can see the entire coding then at 3) the coding is split into blocks with an explanation below which allows you to change the coding.

15. The fourth pair of numbers is called Byte 3 as detailed in the picture below. You can see at the bottom there is a checkbox next to Bit 1 which refers to Electric Rear Spoiler Installed

16. Uncheck the box and click EXIT top-left

17. The new coding will be entered in the bottom box automatically

18. Click on Do It!

19. VCDS will confirm if the coding has been applied correctly.

20. Close the VCDS Application and disconnect the cable from the OBD-II port of the vehicle.

21. All finished, the button in the center console for the rear spoiler should no longer work and the rear spoiler will no longer rise at the pre-determined speed automatically because it has been completely disabled.
